Rose M. (Marotta) Sobolewski

A resident of Chelsea almost her entire life, she passed away on May 16th at the Leonard Florence Center for Living where she was receiving supportive care for the past two months. She was in her 89th year. Born and raised in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Rafaele and Maria Domenica (DeMattia) Marotta. She attended St. Rose Elementary School and graduated from St. Rose High School. She married Frank J. Sobolewski and they raised their family in Chelsea. She was predeceased by her beloved husband in 1962 after he passed away following an accident. Rose worked in several of the local factories in Chelsea and later worked for Perkins Tobacco in Bradlee's Department Store. She also worked for Cool-Ray until its closing. Rose was deeply devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time at Revere Beach with her sisters and many beach friends.


Funeral Services will be conducted at the Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home 718 Broadway CHELSEA on
Monday, May 21st at 11:00 A.M. Services will conclude with Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Relatives and friends are most kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the Funeral Home prior to the service beginning at 10:00A.M.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank (Johnny) Sobolewski, Sr. and a very dear friend of the late George Apt. She was also the loving mother of retired Chelsea Police Chief Frank J. Sobolewski, Jr. and his wife Linda of Cape Cod and Florida and Charles Sobolewski of Florida. Cherished grandmother of Brenda Finn of Tewksbury, John Sobolewski of New Hampshire and Charles D. Sobolewski Jr. of Texas. Rose is the great grandmother of seven children and she is also survived by her sister Violet Arsenault of Revere and predeceased by her sisters Phyllis DeDonato, Ann Palumbo, Eva Ferris and brothers Joseph and Anthony Marotta. Rose is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
